The mountains are clear as we wake up. The paper sheets provided by the hut didn't last long! Alarm at 7 and after golden yoked scrambled eggs and turkish coffee, sludgy and strong and some bread and honey we head off at 8:15. We see our first clumps of edelweiss and can see Planika Dom towering above us ("Planika" is Slovenian for edelweiss!). On we trudge ever upwards to the Dom where we arrive just after 10:00. Slightly at a loss for what to do now, and having talked to a Brazilian/German guy we decide to head off for the summit of Triglav today, rather than wait for the good weather which is forecast for tomorrow. We wonder whether we should have helmets and harnesses...others do...
It's steep and rocky and precipitous but there are plenty of cables and metal rungs to grip onto. Swirling cloud affords some atmospheric views. It takes about 1 and 3/4 hours of climbing and scrambling to get to the strange hut at the top. The Bulgarians who are staying in the hut display their national flag and we take their photos.
Then before we get too cold we make the descent, following the steep alternative route to Kredariza Dom where we arrive for a celebratory bowl of rivec and some mountain tea at about 2:15. We buy Triglav T shirts to celebrate our epic achievement. 1,000 metres climbed in total today. Fairly frugal supper of goulash and pasta surrounded by a group of Germans before heading to bed beneath the a very starry sky in our room. No running water here and only a very rudimentary outside toilet .
