Saturday 1 September: LAKE BOHINJ

We wake to the sound of torrential rain and deafening thunderstorms. Impressive forks of lightening light up the mountains from our balcony, although they are enshrouded in mist. Morale is somewhat low especially when I allow myself to look at the weather forecast. The Breakfast room is almost full when we go down but there is a good selection for a "hiker's" needs. Reluctantly we decide that we should set out regardless and we deck ourselves out in goretex. There are moments when the heaviness of the rain eases and we manage a few well planned photos in Ribcev Laz but generally the rain is relentless. We walk all around the lake often paddling through deep torrents of water running off the mountains. The scenery must be stunning on a clear day and we hope we will see it again in better conditions. Near the end we stop for a welcome Beer and watch some intrepid men swimming. I'm afraid we are not tempted and feel wet enough already! We get some bread and cheese from the Supermarket and have a late lunch on our balcony, with a glass of Slovenian Merlot. Unbelievably the rain seems to stop just as we finish our walk! Our room is littered with steaming socks and wet weather gear but we manage a short siesta before reading and relaxing on our balcony.
